Cyberbullying is a growing problem for the Y Generation on the Internet. The anonymity and ease of communication the Internet provides has been abused as a vehicle for bullying, harassment and defamation. The harmful actions of a small minority can make the Internet a hostile and dangerous place. Cyberbullying is a problem that must be addressed and solved.
The 2007 Cyberbullying Public Service Announcement, presented by Sony Creative Software, the National Crime Prevention Council, and the Ad Council has sought to find a popular solution to the problem.

Entrants in the contest were challenged to help end cyberbullying issue by creating a Public Service Announcement. Entries were sought from independent producers and academic institutions with the top submissions being eligible for international broadcast, and their producer or sponsoring academic institution receiving prize packages from Sony.
The contests winning entry from independent producer John Bourgeois was titled "Illuminate Cyberbullying". Shot on a tiny budget, the project used a single light buld, reminiscent of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and included dialog that the producer said included "some of the things teenagers would never say, or never think"
There are lot of distressed people in the online community looking to prey on clueless individuals. "I thought if I could create a spot that made teenagers being careful look like the cool thing to do, then maybe some would try it. Teenagers like to see a peer taking control of a situation. This Y Generation is all about owning decisions."
