MySpace launches new Homepage
June 17th 2008 03:19
Late last year MySpace realised that it needed a facelift. Tomorrow, the social networking site will roll out a complete redesign to combat the rise in market share of Facebook and Bebo. The changes include a complete homepage redesign, simplified main nav, better and more streamlined (read: making the pages cleaner) profile builder for users; improved search; and a redesigned MySpaceTV player.
The main page will aim to attract new users by making some of MySpace’s key advantages more obvious to users and making unique applications more prominent. The main page will rotate between MySpace apps, music, games and TV. The four views will be customized according to users’ interests.
Also the navigation will be condensed so that there are only about five tabs. Also, MySpace’s distinguishing feature, that it allows for more creativity will be retained. This has been one of the site’s major drawcards over Facebook and Bebo. Users will be able to access an even more creative palette to customize their own sites.
The new MySpaceTV player now includes scrubber, time-stamp, volume memory, new menu system and other functionalities. The player fully utilizes Flash 9, with a full-screen mode.
