MTV and SpinVox join forces on an Integrated Voice Powered Social Networking Campaign

“Stand By What you Say” is a new campaign which encourages young people to speak openly about sex, sexual health and HIV/AIDS. The initiative, launched by MTV’s Staying Alive Foundation, SpinVox and Causes on Facebook aims to increase awareness about the disease while breaking down its associated stigma.
SpinVox converts voice messages left by callers into text to be posted on www.standbywhatyousay.com and encourages them to pledge money. Any cash raised is used by the MTV charity to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS at a grassroots level. SpinVox has also promised to match the funds raised by the charity drive to the tune of $50, 000 US.
When calling, you’re immediately greeted by the 2008 Staying Alive foundation Ambassador Kelly Rowland who asks you to leave a message. Conversation starters include ‘sex secrets, ‘one night stands’ and ‘condoms’ which encourage visitors and create debate among the global youth audience.
Some critics have said that the program is too forward about asking for donations and that generating debate and awareness online will eventually produce ground-root support without requiring the donation of money.
