Mobile social networking hits Music Festivals

In February it was reported that Buzzd, a Mobile social networking service that is commonly used in pubs and clubs won several awards at the MobileMonday Peer awards. It was noted at the ceremony that location-based services will be one of the most popular application for the Mobile Web. Over the weekend the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival, staged in Manchester Tennessee highly endorsed the use of this technology.
The new social networking feature was labelled “Bonnaroo Mobile” and sold itself as a complete interactive crowd networking experience. Patrons with mobiles were able to keep in touch with their friends, sign up for alerts, access performance schedules for specific artists, 'buzz' people with showtimes, give real time reviews of the music, and report on what is happening across the venue.
This application enables real-time mobile social networking. The Buzzd app also allows users to search for events near them and contact their friends with details. The new catchcry from Buzzd is “Your city, in real time.”
According to Buzzd CEO Nihal Mehta, Buzzd at Bonnaroo brought "user-generated real-time updates" to music festivals for the first time. The free service includes SMS updates as well as user access through Web Browsing.
Expect to see the technology used extensively in Australia as soon as users become more inclined to access the Web from the mobiles. Until now Asia and Europe have been setting the trends when it comes to Mobile functions, this development indicates a maturity in the U.S. networks that was previously unforseen.
