A survey of 300 Venture Capitalists, Executives and Investment Bankers conducted by KPMG has concluded that mobile technology is where it’s at. Those people investing in entertainment content over the next few years are expected to throw their weight behind the mobile revolution.
Around a fifth of those surveyed believed that the investment in digital content for mobile services will increase over the next two years, almost certainly by more than 25 percent. Mobile applications will be one of the biggest growth areas. Companies like Google have already started the push to simplify computer applications for mobile use. 31 percent of VC’s believe that mobile applications will be the biggest source of revenue for investors.
Of the mobile applications that look set to flourish, mobile social networking is the biggest with over 30 percent of market share. Gaming follows with 20 percent, while video and music downloads take up about 35 percent together. Some of the biggest growth has been in user-generated content.
The mass adoption of mobile technology will take place over the next two to five years. But who will control this emerging social trend? Almost half of VC’s believe that it will be Social Networking sites like Facebook and MySpace. Less than 15 percent believe that mobile providers will have the Lion’s share of the cash coming out of mobile.
