HBO Hangover: What to do when the Sex gets old
May 20th 2008 03:27
For a long time Australians have had to turn to Pay TV's semi-revolutionary content when we wanted to escape the rubbish that the commercial stations dish up. But Generation Y has found that file sharing and illegal downloading are easily the best ways to get access to content, fast! And what are we watching??
That's right, HBO!!
The Sopranos, Sex and the City, Entourage, Flight of the Condords, Big Love, The Wire, Rome, Deadwood, Six Feet Under...even Da Ali G Show!
HBO Series are fantastic! Brilliantly written with well chosen but not excessive dialogue, stirring scenery, authentic sets, and overall high production values. There are very few flaws in any of the shows, which is probably why they have won so many Television awards over the past decade. But there is one major problem with your favourite HBO series...It will eventually end
"HBO Hangover" is a common illness amongst Generation Y in Australia. After watching a staggering 80 hours of The Sopranos, I myself was struck down with a severe case of the illness. Similar viruses were contracted with the end of Entourage's 4th season and the completion of Sex and the City.
The Cure? I tried everything from Showtime drama's like Weeds to Australia's own Underbelly. But nothing can really compare. My and your only choice is to find the next great HBO drama.
To my great pleasure it turned out to be "The Wire", an awesome series set in Baltimore that focuses on a different part of the city in each series, the drugs gangs, the port, the government and the schools. Sadly I know some day it will end...but hopefully HBO will give me another series
