Google's Mobile Community

Google Inc. is targeting mobile enthusiasts to join the newly launched Google Mobile Community. The new social networking site will be for people who are passionate about mobile technology and want to discuss mobile initiatives and applications. In a brilliant move that could lead to an investment in mobile technology by Google, the company has asked users to provide feedback about mobile services and will have an open forum which it will monitor for possible ideas.
“It's probably pretty clear that we're passionate about mobile technology,” said Bret Luboyeski, mobile product specialist at Mountain View, CA-based Google, in the Google Mobile Blog
“And if you have really been following this blog, it probably means that you are passionate about mobile technology too,” he said. “Well, we've created a place for you to connect with other mobile enthusiasts.”
Google has said that the site will be a place for people to discuss mobile in general. They are hoping that users will pass on information about the sort of function and applications that they currently get from their mobile phones and also what they will be looking for in the future.
The site could run simply as a test lab for when Google starts to invest in mobile applications like Google Maps, Tele Atlas and other GPS applications.
Some notable posts do seem sinister, however. One helps readers get started with Google’s open-source Android mobile operating system and another discusses how Google Maps can “Save the day.”
The website comes in the wake of a raft of Google moves into the mobile world, with Google maps and Gmail now available on smart phones worldwide. Also, Google has launched Google Sync which enable BlackBerry’s and iPhone’s to synchronize calendars and documents.
