Generation Y sets the technology agenda. Why? Because technology is embedded into everything Gen-Y’s do. 9 of 10 own their on computer and over 82 percent have mobile technology on their hip pocket. Gen-Y is also the most internet-savy and now spend (waste?) more time online than they do in front of the box.
The key difference between Generation Y and their Generation X predecessors is that Gen-Y’s have technology embedded into everything they do whereas Gen-X’s only use emerging technology when it intersects with a personal need or desire. That is, they only use it when it is suitable for their lifestyle, they won’t alter their lifestyle to suit their media use.
Almost 70 of Gen X’s are shopping online at some point, perhaps not everyday, but when it is applicable they jump at the opportunity. Similar numbers are also using online banking.
Although they’re catching up rapidly (and the baby boomers are too) Generation Y holds a commanding lead because of an inherently trusting relationship with technology that will only deteriorate if Facebook releases all their personal information.
