Instead of grasping their independence and getting out into the real world, more university graduates and choosing to move back home. A survey by Collegegrad.com has found that more than 77 percent of University graduates will be going back to the nest when they conclude their studies, more than 10 percent more than last year.
Despite the economic boom in Australia over the past few years, Uni students are still struggling with petrol prices and living costs, not to mention the lack of suitable rental properties that are available in the capital cities.
Moving back home now hold less of a stigma for the Gen Y population because so many are being forced to do it.
The trend is even worse in the United States. "This is a trend we were hearing about even before talk of a recession really started," says Sarah Zehr, assistant dean and director of Engineering Career Services at University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign in a report. "Gen Y students look to their parents for advice and support, and this is just another example of a trend with this generation."
Many reports have suggests that this generation seems to have a close relationship with their parents and isn’t experiencing the stigma and obstacles of returning home of previous generations

The Political Brief
Staying at home while finishing your education is not terribly unusual, TimmyH. It's what the kids do after graduation that's interesting. Do they go off on their own or do they stick with the folks? Are the prices on everything going up until getting started in a career is too expensive? And most importantly, do the kids contribute to the household or do the parents have to foot the bills for everything?

Do they help out? I don't know, but I presume not... they'd rather spend the money on iPods and vacations...
