62% of Uni students watch TV online

Almost two thirds of high school and university aged students are watching video and television online. Services like, Veoh, Hulu and Joost have become exceedingly popular over the past twelve months in addition to old favourites like YouTube. The results were part of a survey which revealed that conversely, TV ownership in the same demographic is falling slightly.
This suggests that the personal computer is now playing a greater role in the entertainment of Generation Y. From 2007 to 2008 laptop sales have also increased compared to desktops. This might well be reminiscent of the mobile revolution, Gen Ys are not inclined to spend hours in front of a screen if they can’t move it to their couch, or outside on the verandah.
More so, the surge in laptop ownership probably reflects increasing memory and display quality, which makes them more suitable for multimedia consumption, as well as their traditional advantage of mobility. University aged students place a high premium on mobility, also illustrated by the increase in MP3 ownership from 58 percent to 67 percent in the past twelve months.
