$275 - The Price of Clear Skin
August 21st 2008 04:41
A study by researchers at the School of Medicine at the University of California has suggested that Generation Y cares about their appearance to the tune of $275.
That was the average price that participants in the study, which was published in the Archives of Dermatology this week, would pay to be acne-free for their entire lives. To be zit-free from this day forth would cost you a proverbial $100 while to limit acne by 50 percent was only worth about $10 to the average teen.
Considering the social impact of poor self-image and the unsubstanitated suggestions that acne-related medications have been linked to teenage suicide, I found this to be a surprisingly low number. I would have thought that to be ance free for one's entire life might incur a price tag in the thousands. But perhaps the figures are dragged down by the lucky teens that haven't yet started on childhood acne.
Whatever the reson it seems a shockingly small number. You could spend $275 on anti-acne creams and cleansers in a few months one would imagine. So for lifetime relief I should have thought people would be much more inclined to shell out the bikkies.
Does the teen in your life have acne? How does he or she handle it? Does seeing those zits bring back memories of your own face-off with zits?
Really Long Link
